SUMMARY:Leadership and Social Weekend for Adults with PWS
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to announce the details of the first PWSA(NZ) weekend to be held for adults with PWS. \nWHERE: The Surrey Hotel\, Grey Lynn\, Auckland.\nWHEN: Friday October 16th (dinner 6pm) until lunchtime on Sunday October 18th. (Note new date due to Covid-19.)\nCOST: Registration is $40 per person (includes accommodation in twin rooms and meals) / $20pp for days only attendance (meals only). \nPROGRAMME: The weekend will have a focus on advocacy and leadership\, but will also include plenty of time for social activities.The programme involves activities that develop self-advocacy skills and having a leadership role in the work of the PWSA\, such as defining supports needed and involvement in the development of resources. You can view the Adults with PWS Leadership Group webpage to read the recommendations that were made at the last meeting which was held at our Lake Taupo camp. The weekend programme will also include a visit to a local attraction. \n \nSUPPORT: We would like to invite our adults with PWS to attend with a support person who could be either a Support Worker or a parent / other family member (such as an adult sibling)\, or even a family friend. If a Support Worker usually supports more than one person with PWS and feels able to do so during this weekend\, we would not require 1:1 support. \nREGISTRATION AND FLIGHT SUBSIDIES: We have a limited budget for this weekend so places may need to be restricted to those who expressed interest before July 31st. Due to high interest\, we may also need to give first priority for rooms to those travelling from further afield. (Please assume that a room will be available at this stage for those who have already expressed a preference to stay overnight and we will let you know if we need to request a change to day only attendee.) \nDue to Covid-19\, the original registration period has been extended. Those who expressed interest are now invited to confirm attendance by completing a registration form and payment by MONDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH. If you are no longer able to attend\, please let us know.\n\nTo register\, please complete a registration form\n\nPlease make payment of $40 per person or $20 per person (days only) into the following account:\n\nPWSA(NZ) 12-3659-0043686-00 (please use your NAME and ADULTWKND as references) \n\n\n\n\nIf you did not submit an expression of interest\, we would still like you to register\, but your place cannot be confirmed until we contact you to confirm. Please do not book flights before discussing with us first if you did not previously express interest\, and please be aware that the travel subsidy amounts advertised may need to be reduced or could be unavailable.\n\n\n\n\n\nFlight Subsidies – The subsidy available for those who expressed an interest in this event has been sent out via email. The amount differs for each departing airport. The subsidies only attempt to cover the cheapest reasonable flights\, so we recommend booking flights as soon as possible before those are gone and prices increase.\n\n\n\nFor those who did not submit an expression of interest before July 31st\, there may be some subsidy available\, but this cannot be confirmed until we have checked our budget and whether those who originally intended to apply for a subsidy are still going to register.
